My First Generation Story is a documentary that follows Jefferson Noël as he navigates deep self-doubt, identity struggles, and internal battles as the son of Haitian immigrants. Now a professor, global speaker, and author, his journey reflects persistence, growth, and direction. This documentary is designed to support student success by strengthening self-belief, increasing motivation, and reinforcing that students can move forward regardless of where they start.

Jefferson Noël
Jefferson Noel is a professor at Florida International University. He is a five-time published author, professional orator, award-winning educator, and TEDx speaker. Jefferson is the founder of Barbershop Speaks, an organization that engages in intelligent discussions inside barbershops and beauty salons. He hosts a television show on WSFL-TV that generates 340,000 viewers per episode. He has been featured on MSNBC, NBC News Now, NPR, and more. Additionally, he has received Miami’s Top Black Educator Distinction of 2021, Legacy Miami Top Leader of Today & Tomorrow of 2022, the Man of Honor Award in 2023, Literary Trailblazer Award, the Black Man of Excellence by the Black Professional Network in 2024, and the 2025 Beacon Award from The Ellis Island Honors Society, established by President Ronald Regan.
